Hint

The switch can be purchased from the manufacturer’s website: https://jethome.ru/es1/?variation_id=23

The Ethernet switch JetHome ES1-DC, is designed for use in home automation systems and serves to connect devices (controllers) that have an Ethernet interface and support the power function using Passive PoE technology into a local network.

The DIN-rail design allows the switch to be conveniently placed in the electrical panel next to other controllers.

Dimensions and weight

  • Enclosure dimensions: 130 x 76 x 57 mm.

  • Enclosure width is 76mm, which is about 4.3 standard modules for a DIN rail (17.5mm).

  • Ability to mount the enclosure to a DIN rail 35mm.

  • Weight: 140 g.

Ethernet switch

Warning

  • Only only devices that support power using Passive PoE technology can be connected to the switch.

  • Do not connect to the ports ETHERNET 2 - ETHERNET 5 computers, notebooks and other home devices to avoid damaging them.

The primary function of the device is to interconnect multiple nodes (devices) within a single Ethernet network segment at up to 100 Mbps. Category 5 cable with two or four twisted pairs can be used as a physical layer. The cable uses 8P8C (RJ45) connectors. Pins 1, 2 and 3, 6 of the connector are used for data transmission.

Features of the Ethernet switch:

  • 5-port controller RTL8305NB.

  • Supports IEEE 802.3/802.3u standards with automatic 10/100 Mbps bit rate detection.

  • Supports full-duplex communication in accordance with the IEEE 802.3x standard.

Power supply

The switcher is powered by an external stabilized DC source with voltage from 12V to 56V.

Passive PoE In

The switch can be powered by an external DC power supply using Passive PoE technology through the port ETHERNET 1/POE IN.

Nominal supply voltage range is 12V to 48V, maximum supply voltage range is 12V to 56V.*

Passive PoE Out

The switch can power up to 4 devices connected to the ports ETHERNET 2 - ETHERNET 5 (POE OUT) using Passive PoE technology.

When the switch is powered by AC power, the output voltage on the POE OUT ports is 24V. The maximum total current delivered to consumers connected to the POE OUT ports and the DC OUT terminal is 1.3A.

When the switch is powered from the port ETHERNET 1 (POE IN) the output voltage on the ports POE OUT will match the input voltage POE IN, and the maximum total current delivered to consumers connected to the ports POE OUT in this case is 2.5A.

Overload protection

The switchboard has the function of protection against exceeding the maximum output current given to consumers.

The maximum current delivered to consumers depends on the external power supply used, but cannot exceed 2.5A.

If the maximum current consumption is exceeded, external consumers supplied from the switch will be disconnected. In this case the indicator POWER OVERLOAD on the front panel of the switch lights up and the relay contacts POWER OVERLOAD, brought out to the external terminal, close.

Connector assignment

  • ETHERNET 1 - ETHERNET 5 - are for connecting other devices to the switch using Ethernet technology. However, the port ETHERNET 1/POE IN can be used to power the switch using Passive PoE technology, and the ports ETHERNET 2 - ETHERNET 5 (POE OUT) - can be used to power external devices connected to the switch using Passive PoE technology.

  • The terminal POWER OK - dry contacts of the relay. The contacts are closed when the switch outputs POE OUT and DC OUT are energized and open when the total maximum load current is exceeded.

  • The DC IN terminal is for powering the controller.

Display

The switch has the following indicators to show the state of the switch:

On the front panel:

  • POWER - power indicator, lit green when the switch is powered and red when the total maximum output current consumed by external devices powered by the switch is exceeded.

On the Ethernet connectors:

  • Green LED - indication of external device connection via Ethernet technology.

  • The orange indicator on the ports POE OUT indicates the presence of output power, on the port POE IN - indicates the switch power from the port POE IN.

Relay

The switch has one relay output Dry Contact, and a redundant indicator on the front panel of the switch:

Warning

The maximum switchable current of the relay is 1A.

  • Terminal POWER OK - contacts closed when there is power to the switch outputs POE OUT, open when the total maximum load current is exceeded.

Installation

The unit can be installed in an electrical equipment cabinet or other location, where it must be protected from moisture, dirt and foreign objects, as well as vibration-free.

Note

For better cooling of the internal components, the housing should be installed in an upright position.

To install it, you have to:

  • Make sure there is enough space to connect the device and run the wires.

  • Securely fasten the unit to the DIN rail or to a vertical surface with screws.

To remove it from the DIN-rail you should:

  • Insert the tip of a screwdriver into the latch eyelet.

  • Press the latch down.

  • Take the controller away from the DIN rail.

Operating conditions

  • Ambient temperature: 0..+40 С.

  • Relative humidity up to 80% without condensation.

  • Closed explosion-proof rooms without aggressive vapors and gases.

Wiring recommendations

It is recommended that stranded copper cables be used to ensure reliable electrical connections. The cable ends should be stripped and then tinned or cable lugs should be used. The cable strands should be stripped so that their bare ends do not protrude beyond the terminal block after connection to the controller.

General requirements for connection lines:

  • When laying the cables, the communication lines connecting the device to the sensors or other devices should be separated into separate routes, and located separately from power cables and cables causing high-frequency and pulse interference.

  • To protect the inputs of the device from the influence of electromagnetic interference, the communication lines of the controller should be shielded. Special cables with braided shielding can be used as shields.

  • It is recommended to install line noise filters in the power supply line of the controller.

  • In the case of controlling power equipment, it is recommended that spark-quenching filters be installed on the switching line of this equipment.
